Harvey Donald Wierenga, age 89, was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 17, 1937. He passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026, at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois. Harvey also resided in Cicero and Streator, Illinois for many years. The last places of residence were in Mahomet and Rantoul, Illinois. Early in his life Harvey trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and sought to serve Him. Harvey spent many years serving actively in many roles in all of the churches he attended. Some of the roles he served in were leading Bible Studies, teaching Sunday School, and leading Men's Groups. He also served with the World Home Bible League in Berwyn, Illinois, and volunteered with the Helping Hand Mission in Chicago, Illinois. He enjoyed singing in the choir in his earlier years. Harvey had a rare gift of leadership, which was always led from a servant’s heart. He also loved serving alongside our mother whenever possible, who was the love of his life. Harvey’s work was never just a job—it was a passion and a place where he truly belonged. He remained dedicated to his career. He enjoyed many years as a truck driver, even in the most difficult places to drive in Chicago. In his later years he also served as a bus driver and bus monitor in Streator, Illinois. Harvey left behind a career filled with pride, purpose, and lasting friendships. Harvey cherished spending time with family. He was a very loving, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, who knew how to make any experience fun and meaningful. He also loved to spend time with friends, wherever possible. Harvey always made everyone feel welcome, was fiercely determined in all he accomplished, and had a strong sense of humor. Harvey enjoyed reading, listening to music, and walking in God’s creation, especially along lakes and woods. He has left behind a strong legacy of love and godliness to his family. Harvey lived a life that was very pleasing to the Lord, and he will hear the words, “ Well done, good and faithful servant.” Services will be held on October 24, 2026 at the New Beginnings Baptist Church at 11 am. The address is 204 S. Monroe St. Streator, 61364. There will be a private burial service for the immediate family at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Stickney, Illinois, at a later date. Memorial gifts can be sent to: The Voice of the Martyrs Ministry.
