Harry 'Sonny' Robert Powell

Danville - Harry "Sonny" Robert Powell, Jr., 66, of Danville passed away at 4:55 AM on March 11, 2017 at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, IL Harry was born on August 9, 1950 in Danville, IL the son of Harry Robert and Helen Elizabeth (Lamb) Powell. He married Natalie Stuebe on March 4, 1980 in Danville and she survives. Survivors include his wife, Natalie of Danville, 5 children, Joe (Tammy) Benson of Westville, Kevin (Donnette) Benson of Clarksville, TN, Rob (Lacy) Powell of Sidell, Tammy (Ronnie) Moore of Danville and Tina (Rob) Johnson of Danville, IL, four siblings, Rick (Elaine) Powell of Danville, Dorothy (Harry) Johnson of Panama City Beach, FL, Diane (Randy) Brooks of Fort Wayne, IN, Sandy (Scott) Dowers of Fairmount, and three brothers-in-laws and their spouses, fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Harry is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, baby Jackie and Linda. Harry served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970. He was an avid bowler and bowled for many years at the 300 Room, Lincoln Lanes, Bulans Bowl and other area bowling alleys. He was awarded Lifetime Dedication to Bowling by the Danville Area Bowling Association during the 2010 - 2011 year. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, as well as played and umpired softball for many years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 824 East Main Street Danville, IL. Pastor Kent Tibben will officiate. Burial will be in Danville Lutheran Cemetery with Military Rites accord by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street Danville, IL 61834 and 1 Hour Prior to Services at the Church. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church's Trinity Comfort/Kare 9 Dog Fund or the American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard.
