Harry L. Gutterridge, 82, of Danville, passed away at 7:15 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2005 at Danville Care Center. He was born May 19, 1923 in Penfield, Illinois, the son of Fred Grand-dad and Bessie (Bailey) Gutterridge. He married Evelyn Bernadine Hosch on December 4, 1948 at Bowman Avenue United Methodist Church in Danville. Harry is survived by: his wife of over 56 years- Bernadine Gutterridge of Danville; two daughters- Judy (Bruce) Seidler of Bismarck and Janet (Greg) Denman of Danville; three grandchildren- Margie, Mark and Judy Denman; one sister- Betty (Gene) Carlton of Danville; two sisters-in-law- Marilyn Gutterridge of Bismarck and Lois Childers of Danville; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. His parents, five brothers " Owen, Jake, Chuck, Fletcher and Paul Gutterridge and two sisters- Freida Gutterridge and Meredith Taylor preceded him in death. He was a 1941 graduate of Oakwood High School. He worked for Hyster Company for 40 years, until his retirement in 1988. Harry proudly served in the Army-Airforce during WWII as an Electrician on a P-38 from 1941-1943, serving in England, France and Germany. He was a member of Bowman Avenue United Methodist Church, member and past treasurer of GAO Grotto, past president of the Grotto Skippers, and he was one of two people who started the camping club at the Grotto. He was past president of Illinois Lincoln Land W.B.B.C.I.; member of the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge F 32nd Degree Mason; past member of the Ansar Shrine in Springfield, IL; member of the American Legion Post #210, Danville and a former board member of the Lake Vermilion Safety Patrol. Harry loved to rebuild and repair Lawn Boy lawnmowers, and enjoyed camping with the Airstream Club. Along with his wife, he spent over 14 years wintering in Florida, where he enjoyed playing shuffleboard, playing Euchre, and riding with his bicycle club. He enjoyed boating for many years with his family, and also enjoyed the time he spent at the grotto and the lake. He was especially proud of the windmill he restored for his daughter Judy. In his later years, he enjoyed model Lionel trains and building model airplanes. He was especially proud of his three grandchildren, and his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
