Harry Johnson Jr., 84, of Danville passed away on March 11, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on May 23, 1929 in Danville, IL, the son of Harry and Dema (Robinson) Johnson Sr. He married Colletta Murray on January 25, 1953 in Georgetown, IL . She survives. He will be deeply missed by one daughter, Sherri (Robert) Hous of Danville and three sons, David (Martha) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Murray Scott (Renee) Johnson of Danville; and Eric (Taylor) Johnson of Thornton, CO; seven grandchildren, Tabitha (David) Thrasher of Omaha, NE; Samantha Johnson of Danville; Norma Jean Johnson of Danville, IL; Emma Johnson of Keokuk, IA; Lauren Hous of Danville, Tegan Johnson of Thornton, CO and Nicholas of Thornton, CO; six great-grandchildren, Addison, Landon and Sophie Thrasher and Jahzarrya, Jamar and Jhaziya Porter; one nephew, Kevin (Brenda) Stockdale, one great niece Rachel (Toby) Wolfe and son Bailey Wolfe, one great nephew, Jackson Stockdale-Wilson. Harry was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Peggy Stockdale. Harry drove tanker trucks for over 40 years, mostly with Rogers Cartage in Danville until he retired in 1986. On the weekends you could find Harry at the local barber shops cutting hair and socializing. He was a United States Army veteran and served in Korea from 1950 to 1952 earning the Combat Infantry Badge. He was life member of the Vermilion County War Museum, and served as president, vice-President and on the board of directors. He was a life member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church in Danville, and currently attended Fairview United Methodist Church. Colletta and Harry were life members of the Illiana genealogy society. He enjoyed working on cars, trucks and computers, and also enjoyed photography, crossword puzzles, going on river cruises and enjoyed watching all of the water locking systems. A celebration of Harrys life will be on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10 am at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Matt Filisky officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.
