Harry E. Ratkowski, 96, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Danville passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 at Solstice Senior Living in Texas. He was born March 12, 1922 in Chicago, IL the son of Frank Hoffman and Frieda Dumke. Harry is survived by his wife of 72 years, Beverly Jean Mehall. They married August 24, 1946 in Chicago, IL. Also surviving him are his daughter, Valerie Ratkowski-Mainland of Franksville, WI; sons, Jeff (Donna) Ratkowski of Plano, TX and Paul (Kim) Ratkowski of Leonard, TX; grandchildren, Ryan (Rebecca) Ratkowski of Plano, TX, Kristina (Darren) Havemann of Spring, TX, Sean Mainland of Racine, WI, Brooke Mainland of Troy, MI; Step-grandchildren, Taylor (Jeff) Baumann of McKinney, TX, Stockton (Taylor) Gallagher of Fayetteville, AR and Michael Gallagher of Allen, TX; great-grandchildren, Luke, Tucker, and Zoey Ratkowski, Katelyn and Dylan Havemann, Step great-grandchildren, Palmer Baumann, and Harley and McKinleigh Gallagher. He was preceded in death by his parents. Harry attended Northwestern University and served in the United States Navy Seabees from 1942-1946. He was a sales manager for Esco Corporation before his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Danville American Legion. Harry was a Red Vest Volunteer for several years at the Danville VA and the Danville Hospital. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, crossword puzzles and watching the Chicago Bulls. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut Street, Danville, IL 61832. Father Bo Schmitt will officiate. Harry will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery Mausoleum 301 East Voorhees, Danville, IL with Military Rites conducted by Georgetown American Legion Post 203. Visitation will be Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL.
