Harry A. Golden Harry A. Golden, 86, of Bismarck, passed away 1:30 p.m. on October 1st, 2010 at VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville. Harry was born March 28th, 1924, in Danville, Illinois, the son of John H. and Irene Leona (Jones) Golden. He married Eleanor Jane Ellis on November 4th, 1961 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She preceded him in death on November 12th, 2009. He is survived by two brothers- John J. Golden and wife Jackie of Danville and Dan C. Golden and wife Ann of Kearney, Missouri; one sister- Norma J. White and husband James W. of Bismarck. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Harry greatly as well as his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, twin brother-Hubert Wesley Golden, brother- Floyd Robert Bob Golden and a sister- Beverly J. Hall. Harry graduated from the Liberty Grade School and Bismarck Township High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged having been awarded the Purple Heart from injuries received during combat in Italy. Harry worked as a union carpenter and enjoyed farming and rural life. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, formerly the Lincoln United Methodist Church in Danville, Local #269 Carpenters Union, 50 year member of Olive Branch Lodge 38, 50 year member of American Legion Post #210, GAO Grotto, and Scottish Rite Bodies of Danville. Harry and Jane enjoyed the winter months in Florida for the last 20 years in the Lake Worth area. They looked forward to their Saturday morning breakfast group with their friends in Danville. The family wishes to thank cousin, Bob Jones, who tirelessly gave of his time to take Harry to his appointments at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Danville and Indianapolis and many other care giving needs. Harry always said, I pray regularly the good Lord will never permit such a huge war ever again, taking all the young lives, using up so many of our natural resources, causing so many mothers to mourn for the loss of sons, daughters and husbands. A Celebration of the life of Harry A. Golden will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 5th, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Peggy Emmert officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service held at 6:30 p.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post #210.
