Harriet L. Gildersleeve

Harriet Gildersleeve, 76, of Danville, left this life that she loved on Saturday, August 24, 2019.

Her journey started on May 29, 1943. She was born into a poor but good family. She was born to loving parents George and Fay (Oakes) Dreher Hedges. She had aunts and uncles who loved her and helped her understand what family is all about.

Harriet attended grade school in Danville and went to Bismarck High School where she graduated in 1961 and was a member of the best class of friends she was to ever know. They are her golden treasures.

In 1963 Harriet married Don Gildersleeve, her one and only true love. Don passed this life on August 19, 2005. They had three children, David (Jo Ellen) Gildersleeve of League City, Texas; Paula Gildersleeve-Drummond of Muscle Shoale, Alabama and Sheila Gildersleeve of Danville; two granddaughters, Diana (Gildersleeve) Holmes of Danville and Kayla Drummond of Seneca, MO; two great-granddaughters, Hannah Holmes and Addison Holmes of Danville; and one great-grandson, Brayden Tucker of Seneca, MO.

Harriet worked several jobs in the area, and she retired in 1994.

Harriet is survived by her children and grandchildren, a very loving foster brother, John (Marlene) Cummins of Portage, IN, whom she shared her teen years with. Also, a biological brother John (Barbara) Dreher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband and an unborn sister, and an infant brother David Michael Dreher.

A celebration of Harriets life will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 30, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville 3940 North Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834 with Pastor Jim Blue officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park.
