Harold W. Howie of Tilton, passed away peacefully with family at his side, on August 18, 2015. He was born February 3, 1933 in Danville, Ill. to Harrison and Grace Howie. Harold proudly served our country in the Navy as a 3rd Class Petty Officer, in French Morocco as a storekeeper. He played guitar, sang country and gospel, enjoyed watching the Cubs, NASCAR, and loved to listen to country music favorites like, Tammy Wynette, George Strait and Alan Jackson. He maintained an immaculate garden, enjoyed his pool and keeping it up, he liked to cook out. Harold was also known as "the best machinist in Danville." He worked at Berkley-Davis for 31 years followed by Dines Machine for 9 years. Harold and Doris went to Myrtle Beach every year for 38 years. He especially loved to spend time with his kids and grandkids, he was a loving husband, a family man where family always came first. He is survived by his dear wife, Doris, of 57 years, with whom he was united in marriage on July 19, 1958; and by his children, Debbie (William) McNair of Rocky Point, NC, Marty (Lee) Fellers of Tilton, Ill; his cherished grandchildren, Andy (Ashley) Thomas, Kimberly (Brian) York, Suzanne (Zemery) Woodruff, Ted Meeker III, Laura (Shawn) Osborne, Angie (Bob) Lemeire, Melissa (Doug) Latoz, Amy Jo Fellers; Step-grandchildren, Willie McNair, Jason McNair, Ed Miller, Seth Miller, James Miller, Dennis Miller, and Tomi King; his great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jackson, Sutton, Colton, Joshua, Chelsea, Layton, Ellery, Marin, Chance; and his great-great grandchild, Allisen; by two brothers, Richard Howie of Seiverville, TN and Donald (Cleo) Howie of Charleston, Ill; and by many nieces, nephews and many other dear relatives and friends. Harold's family wishes to offer a special "thank you" to Carle Hospice, Faith In Action South, and Pam Zimmerman along with Ray and Sandy Howie. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-son, EJ Fellers; and siblings, William Howie, Dale Howie, Arthur Howie, Dorothy Evans, Arlene Eades, and Polly Eades. A visitation will be held Friday, August 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Celebration of life service, Saturday, August 22, 1 p.m., with Reverend Wade Martin officiating, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, Ill. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
