Harold "H" Rife of rural Champaign County passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital.
He was born Dec. 3, 1940, to Harold and Betty (Runyun) of Danville. He married Bonnie K Bohlen on Dec. 19, 2001, and she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Jamie (Rachel) Rife of Colorado and Kathy (Ed) Pellum of Rantoul; four grandchildren, Vincent Lynch, Hillary Maier, Clara Rife and Parker Rifel; and three great-grandchildren, Auron, Addison and Declan; brothers Larry Rife of Rossville, and Michael Rife of San Diego; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and brother John.
Mr. Rife was a plumber with the University of Illinois until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of Local 149 Plumbers and PIpefitters, and UA Steamfitters, Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was also a 50-year member of American Legion Post 568 in Gibson City. He served his country from 1959-1963 in the Army.
If it had wheels and went fast, it turned left and he drove it. He raced on the dirt tracks of Illinois and Indiana in his younger years. His hobbies included Nascar, restoring old cars and tractors, camping and visiting with his many friends and relatives.
The family will be greeting friends from 1:00 - 5:00 on Saturday July 9, 2023 at the Middle Fork River Forest Preserve Activities Center.
