Harold Ray Pennington, 75, formerly of Springfield, IL, passed away at 1:15pm on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Danville VA Illiana Health Care Systems. He was born on September 2, 1934, in Princeton, WV, the son of James Arthur and Fannie Pennington. After graduating high school, Harold joined the United States Air Force. While serving in France, he met and married Anne Hanley. Following his eight years of duty, he left the service as a staff sergeant and moved to Indiana with his wife Anne. He worked in Indiana for 20 years as a computer programmer, before moving to Dallas, TX, where he joined the postal service, retiring in 2000. Following retirement, Harold lived a time in Princeton, WV, and Springfield, IL. His two children, Daniel Pennington of Chaska, MN, and Jeffery Pennington of Springfield, IL, survive Harold. His granddaughter, Courtney Pennington, and great-granddaughter, Savannah, both of Chaska, MN, also survive him. His sisters and brothers, Linda Fisk of Lerona, WV, Shirley Pennington of Hampstead, MD, Fred Pennington of Princeton, WV, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive Harold. His wife of 38 years, Anne, great-grandson, Brendan, and six brothers and sisters preceded Harold in death. Per Harolds wishes, cremation rites will be handled by Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL. Private services will be held by the family at a later date. Memorials may be made in Harolds name to the Alzheimers Foundation of America.
