HAROLD LESLIE MELTON Harold L. Melton, 82, died Friday, November 26th, 2010, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. Harold was born August 24th, 1928 near Edgar Springs, Missouri, to Ollis and Vena (Riden) Melton. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Thelma and his brother, Joel. Harold is survived by his wife, Joyce (Wood) Melton, his five children, thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Kevin (Debbie) Melton, Ken, Katie, and Kellie Melton; Kerrie (Mike) Levi, Matt LeJohn, Lauren LeJohn, Kasie and Jesse Levi and great-granddaughter, Kayli LeJohn; Julie (Jaime) Wood, Savanna (Steven) Beheler and Caroline Wood; Kirk Melton, Caleb and Colleen Melton; Laurie (Steve) Sermersheim, Molly and Jake Sermersheim. Harold was a 1947 graduate of East St. Louis High School. He graduated from the Missouri School of Mines (UMR) with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1957 after serving in the Army. He was a certified professional civil engineer. He worked as a civil engineer at Laclede Steel Mills, Alton, IL; Falstaff Brewing, St. Louis, MO; Tee-Pak plants in Danville, IL, Lommel, Belgium and Sandy Run, S.C. He was the construction engineer for Danville District 118 Schools and oversaw the renovation of Danville High School. He also had a consulting firm Melton Engineering from his home. Harold was talented in carpentry, stained glass and upholstery. He was an avid bowler and golfer, having hit a coveted hole-in-one at River Crest Golf Course in Covington, IN. He was also a lifelong Cardinal fan and he passed this love on to his five children. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed long, loud euchre games with them. Harold loved his dachshunds, especially Jezebell, and spent many hours with them on his lap and would coax them off the laps of others. He was an especially wonderful husband who loved his wife, Joyce, with all is heart. His motto to her was always Whatever you say, Shug. Visitation will be Monday, November 29th, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30th, 2010 at St. Pauls Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at a later date in St. James, Missouri. Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Catholic Church or School and the American Heart Association.
