Harold Lee Richter, 81, of Fithian, passed into the presence of the Lord at 7:51p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. Harold was born February 25, 1927 in Oakwood, IL the son of Lesley and Franie Illk Richter. On June 25, 1948, he married Olive Monroe in Oakwood, IL. Harold lived throughout his life in the Oakwood / Fithian area. He was a lifelong farmer and also enjoyed trucking. Harold was a friend to everyone, and was known for being an excellent neighbor. He served on the local school board, and was a former member of the Vermilion County Farm Bureau. Harold was a member of the Muncie Baptist Church for more than sixty years, and served the church in many capacities. He enjoyed attending auctions and listening to gospel music, but Harolds first love was his wife and family. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Olive, and seven children Randy Richter of Fithian, Kathee (Bruce) Torgersen of Indianapolis, In., Janet (Carroll) Slade of Muncie, Il. Wendy (William) Wilder of Fithian, Ken ( Judy) Richter of Veedersburg, In., Brenda (David) Salogga of Decatur, and Pamela Richter of Fithian. Twelve grandchildren, Micah Torgersen and Leah (Jason) Anderson of Indianapolis, In., Rachel Wilder of Champaign, Rosanna Wilder of Rantoul, Logan and Derek Wilder of Fithian, Brandy, Kody, Tyler, and Levi Richter of Veedersburg, In., John and Kathryn Salogga of Decatur, and two step-grandchildren Justin and Melinda Slade; one great grandson Carter Anderson of Indianapolis, and a step-great grandson Skyler Slade of Muncie, Il. He is also survived by his sister Reva (Charles) Mitchell of Janesville, Wi., and a half brother and sister, Donald (Susan) Richter and Beverlie (Deene) Pippenger of Oakwood. Nieces and nephews Toni Mitchell, Jay Mitchell and Beth Hofbauer. Harold was preceded by his parents and step-mother Elizabeth Starks Richter. A celebration of Harolds life will be held at Muncie Baptist Church, 205 Main Street in Muncie, IL on Saturday April 12, 2008 at 2:00p.m. Officiating Pastor Adrian Lamkin. Burial will take place following at Stearns Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until time of services at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
