Harold 'Harry' Howard

WESTVILLE- Harold E. Harry Howard, 78 of Westville, passed away at 12:55am on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the Provena Covenant Hospital in Urbana. Mr. Howard was born in Georgetown on March 12, 1928, the son of Tilmon and Marguerita (Saylor) Howard. Both his parents precede him in death. On September 26, 1948, Harry married Bonnie (Pate) in Westville. She survives and will miss him dearly after having 57 years together. Surviving family members include: his three sons, John (Nana) Howard of Danville, Ron (Karla) Howard of Georgetown, and Jeff (Ruth) Howard of Danville; his daughter, Patricia (Russell) Vance of Danville; his 10 grandchildren, Michael Howard, Johnny Howard, Jennifer Howard, Amanda Howard Jamie (Scott) Blackson, Scott Howard, Sherry Vance, Jason Vance, Doug (Tammy) Howard, Tina Howard, and his 7 great-grandchildren; his brother, David Howard of Georgetown; and his two sisters, Francis (Jerry) Talbott of Danville and Deanna (Harley) Ervin of Danville; and his 2 special fishing buddies, Oscar and Don Howard. His two brothers preceded Harry in death. Harry attended Georgetown Schools, and later enlisted into the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, he began working as a machinist at various locations, as well as owning and operating, Howards Marathon Gas Station in Westville from 1972-1976. Mr. Howard was affiliated with various organizations which include the Westville American Legion Post #51, the Georgetown Russell Lodge Masonic Temple, and a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America Troop #234 in the 1960s. Harry also enjoyed coaching little league baseball, fishing, mushroom hunting and gardening. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of Harrys life is scheduled for 10:00am on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Sunsets Westville-Urbas Funeral Home at 414 S. State St. in Westville. Officiating: Pastor Bob Cornell. Final resting place will be at Mckendree Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Westville American Legion Post #51. Visitation will be held between 4-8pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the funeral home.
