Harold D. Myers, 88, of Georgetown, passed away at 4:00 p.m. Monday February 3, 2014 at Presence U.S.M.C. He was born March 25, 1925, in Newport, Indiana, the son of Henry and Alice Myers. He was a birthright member of The Quaker Church. Harold was united in marriage to Betty Larrance on June 25, 1950 in Ridge Farm. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2009, after 59 years of marriage. Harold will be missed by one son, David (Tonjia) Myers of Georgetown; one daughter, Paula (John) Berlin of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Amanda (Ron) Hidalgo, Lauren (fiance Josh Lear) Myers, Logan (fiance Amanda Mead) Myers and Lisa Berlin; one great-grandson, Ben Loeffler; one sister, Elgie Mack of New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters and special granddaughter, Jenny. Harold retired in 1990 after 42 years with General Electric-Valmont in Danville. He served with the United States Army Air Force as a B-29 tail gunner in the South Pacific during World War II. He enjoyed fishing with friends and especially with nephew, Ed. They ventured to their favorite fishing spot in northern Canada many times over the years. Harold loved nature and was a quiet, gentle man who walked this land closely with his Lord. Harolds family would like to thank the Critical Care Unit at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to him during his illness. Also, a special thank you to Suzanne Fisher, caregiver and very special friend to Harold and his family. A celebration of life funeral service for Harold will be at 11:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown. Pastors Jim Walker and Garry Hendrick will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Park cemetery in Georgetown. Memorial donations in Harolds name may be given to Vermilion Grove Friends Meeting or “Miss Piggy” with the Georgetown/Ridge Farm School District.
