Harold Eugene Curfman, age 89, of Fisher, IL, devoted husband, father grandfather and uncle, died 2/19/2026 after a fall and subsequent complications. He was born November 24, 1936, in Greene County, PA to the late Leslie J. and Florence (Hunnell) Curfman. He was the last member of his family, one of ten siblings.
Whether you called him, Harold, Eugene or “Curfy”, Papa, Grandpa or Uncle, he was always smiling and joking. He cared deeply about his family, community and his fellow man. He was serving in the Air Force at Chanute AFB when he met Nancy and settled in Fisher, IL. He has been married to his wife, Nancy nearly 40 years on March 29th, 2026, who was by his side till death do they part.
He led a very purposeful life, he was very active in the Odd Fellows, 40 years membership. He is Past Grand Patriarch of IL, Past Department Commander, and Past Grand Master. He was privileged to place the wreath for Illinois at the Tomb of the Unknown Solders at Arlington National Cemetery on 3 different occasions. He served as a 20-year AIR FORCE FIREMAN before retiring on to civil service and served as Master Instructor of Jet Engine Mechanics. Additionally, 20 years with D.A.R.E. at Fisher Grade School, grounds keeper and maintenance custodian at FHS, 12 years with EMT Fisher Ambulance Service. Enjoyed Circle R Square dance club.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; their children; Julie Moore (Jim Sparks) of Rantoul, IL, Helen Bowen, of Missouri, Tammy Steiner (deceased), Darcy Yoder (Kevin) of Florida, Michelle Urena (David) of Florida. Grandchildren; Jacob Moore, Jessica Sparks (Saint), Shannon Steiner Cox, Shawn Steiner, Kyle, Austin, Kayla Yoder, Josh, Kaylee, Joel Urena, Mary, Anna Bowen. He is also survived by numerous great grands, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings. Sisters June Phillips, Vivian Tedrow, Delores Fox and Faye Whipkey and brothers Lloyd Adamson, Kenneth, Donald, Glen, Cecil and Duane Curfman.
Gene was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and had a lively rivalry with the family as they are Green Bay Packers fans, even the family cat wore a Packers jersey.
Special mention to a couple of extraordinary kids we deem as part of our family Jacob Monroe and Abigail Thomas of Rantoul. Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday, March 22nd,2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Fisher Amvets Post 52, 301 E. Division St. Fisher, IL 61843.
