Harlan Edward Max Zander, age 90, of Danville, passed away at 10:50 pm on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. He was born April 7, 1917 in Danville the son of William Albert and Lulu B. (Reik) Zander. He married Betty L. (Smith) Wargo on December 9, 1967 at Lincoln Methodist Church in Danville. She survives. Harlan is also survived by one son: John R. Wargo of Danville; one daughter: Karen Henry of Danville; a sister: Eloise Jarling of Danville; three grandchildren: Jerry Hallett of Danville, David Henry of Downs, IL, Michael Wargo of Williamsport, IN., five great grandchildren: Jerry and Bailey Hallett both of Danville; Nathan Wargo of Williamsport, IN, Isaac and Lauryn Henry of Downs, IL; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Mary Jean Hallett, two brothers and three sisters. Harlan was a graduate of Danville High in 1934. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He received the rank of Master Sergeant. Harlan then worked as a meat cutter for 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Danville. Harlan enjoyed watching baseball, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs, doing jigsaw and cross word puzzles, and was also an avid fan of Illini sports. He also loved doing yard work and growing flowers.
