Cayuga, Ind. -- Harlan W. Naylor, 82, of rural Cayuga, passed away at 3:25 p.m. CST Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Hawthorne Inn-Nursing Neighborhood in Danville, Illinois. He was born November 20, 1926, 4 miles west of Cayuga (State Road 234) on the Indiana/Illinois state line to the late Charles and Clara Williams Naylor. He married Wilma A. Wainwright on March 28, 1948. She survives. Survivors include: one son, David Naylor of Perrysville, Indiana; Daughter in Law, Nancy Naylor of Cayuga, Indiana; one granddaughter, Abbie Naylor of Cayuga, Indiana; one grandson, James P. (Brittanie Castell)Naylor of Rural Rantoul, Illinois; two step granddaughters, Jessica(Craig)Barton of Clinton, Indiana and Sarah(Eric)Lindley of Pendleton, Indiana; great grandson, Dakota Blain Naylor and great granddaughter, Paige Addison Naylor both of Rantoul, Illinois; great granddaughter, Ciera Merrell of Veedersburg, Indiana; two sisters, Mary Lou(Carl)Alumbaugh of Georgetown, Illinois and Barbara(Joe)Innis of Plano, Texas; one brother, John Naylor of Little Rock, Arkansas. Harlan was preceded in death by one sister, Ada Jane Hollingsworth. Harlan enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 4, 1944 and two months later was forced out by three doctors against his will. Ten years and two months later he was drafted in the U.S. Army at the age of 28. He was a proud veteran and loved his country. Harlan farmed all of his life on both sides of the state line and enjoyed it very much. After retiring from active farming, he volunteered at the Danville V.A. Hospital for almost three years. He truly loved meeting the people he meet there. He was a 1944 graduate of Cayuga High School. Harlan served as an active Elder for Liberty Church for 52 1/2 years. He served on the Wingard Grade School Board for six years and on the Gideons for five years, enjoying handing out New Testaments at Purdue University, Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Harlan and his wife Wilma, enjoyed attending church at the Georgetown Cumberland Presbyterian Church for the last several years and sharing in Fellowship. He truly loved his family, grandchildren and his friends. Leon Korb; Burial: Eugene Cemetery, Eugene, Indiana with military rites conducted by the Cayuga American Legion Post # 263; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. (Indiana Time), 3 to 7 p.m. (Illinois Time) Sunday, February 15, 2009 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana and one hour prior to services at the church.
