H. Norma Franklin

H. Norma Franklin, 88, of Washington IL passed away at 3:51 pm on October 3, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Peoria IL. She was born February 12, 1924 in Potomac, Illinois to Harry L. and Hazel (Alexander) Perry. She married Tyrus R. Franklin, her lifelong friend of 88 years, on September 1, 1950. He survives. Other survivors include her daughter Toni (Robert) Henry of Sulphur Louisiana, as well as one grandson Nicholas (Kristen) Stodd of Mandeville Louisiana. She is preceded in death by both parents. A graduate of Potomac High School, she attended the University of Illinois where she earned both a Bachelors and a Masters degree. Norma began her teaching career at Potomac High School and Henning High School. She later joined the original faculty of Richwoods High School in Peoria IL in 1957 as a business education teacher and went on to become Chairman of the Business Education Department. She also taught Business Education at Illinois Central College in East Peoria IL. Norma retired from teaching in 1983. Norma will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother as well as a good friend and neighbor who will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank all the friends and neighbors, with special acknowledgement to Rex and Paula Winemiller of Washington IL, for all their love and support during her illness. There will be no visitation at family request. Graveside services will be held at the Potomac Cemetery in Potomac IL on Friday October 5, 2012 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Sally Swaim of the Potomac Methodist Church officiating.
