Gregory Warren Wright

Covington, IN - Gregory Warren Wright, 57, of Covington, Ind., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and loved ones on July 24, 2026, at his home.
Greg was born on January 25, 1969, the son of Robert Wright and Bonnie (Orr) Wright, in Danville, IL.
Greg is survived by his son, Brennan Wright (significant other, Addie Walters), his life partner and fiercest advocate, Ammie Werremeyer, his parents, Robert and Bonnie Wright, his brother, Brad (Tracy) Wright, sister, Sarah Tanner, several nieces and nephews, Aiden Tanner, Lily Tanner, Henry Tanner, Evan (Katelyn) Wright, Gavin Wright, great niece and great nephew, (Parker Wright and Carter Wright), cousins, aunts and uncles. He was truly blessed with a large and loving family.
Greg is preceded in death by his son Jacob Wright, his maternal grandparents Rex and Ginger Orr, and his paternal grandparents Warren and Ellen Wright.
Greg was raised in Covington, Indiana, and graduated from Covington High School in 1987 and from Purdue University in 1991. Hospitality was in his blood, and he and his former wife, Nina Wright, purchased the Possum Trot restaurant in 2002. He was an amazing chef and an astute businessman.
He was a wonderful and doting father to his sons, Jacob and Brennan. He coached every sport they played, from soccer to baseball to basketball. He was delighted to be part of anything they showed interest in, taking them to the slopes to ski and snowboard, traveling to the islands for boating and snorkeling, and attending concerts and festivals (Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo) to share their love of live music.
As a third-generation Purdue graduate and dedicated Boilermaker, he never imagined he’d develop a soft spot for the University of Illinois. Through the years the Possum Trot catered to the Illini Basketball and Football teams, and he became a big fan of the Orange and Blue. Greg shared a love of golf and enjoyed the camaraderie of the sport with his many friends at Rivercrest Golf Course. He joined the ranks of the Hole-in-One Club on Hole #3 in 2017.
He was a Mason and member of Fountain Lodge No. 60, Covington, Indiana, having achieved the status of 3rd Degree Mason. He was an active member and very proud of this accomplishment.
Greg never met a stranger. He lit up every room he ever walked into and lived with the optimism that Life is Good. He shared his love of travel with Ammie, and they took several fantastic vacations exploring the world in the last few years. She brought much joy to his life. He always showed up for his friends and family, loved them deeply, and would gladly give anyone the shirt off his back. Greg never had an “inside voice,” and his laugh will not soon be forgotten. He lived his life to the fullest and will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Indiana time on Monday, August 3, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 3:00p.m. Indiana time on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Jason Epperson will officiate.
