Gregory Smith

Danville Gregory Smith, 68, of Danville passed away on August 12, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Greg was born on January 28, 1955 the son of Roy and Patricia (Howell) Smith in Danville, IL. He was formerly married to Nancy McClain/Harper and later Kathy Davis.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Smith of Menifee, CA, two daughters, Kelly (Billy) Loewenstein of Danville, IL and Holly (Justin) Duprey of Plainfield, IN, five grandchildren, Lindsey (Cody Comstock) Loewenstein, Kaitlyn Loewenstein and Kyle Loewenstein all of Danville, IL and Vivian Duprey and Evelyn Duprey of Plainfield, IN, one sister, Cheri (Gene) Hallett of Riverside, CA as well as a nephew, Matthew (Marlene) Kull of Chesapeake, VA, one niece, Olivia Kull of Laguna Beach, CA, great nephew, Mason Kull and great niece, Jazlyn Kull.

Greg is preceded in death by his father, Roy Smith and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Greg enjoyed riding his motorcycle, boating, camping and was a well-known local Karaoke singer. He was a proud member of the 1971 Danville High School undefeated football team and was an avid Chicago Bears Fan. Greg worked at Allied Signal/Honeywell and retired from the Dynegy Power Plant. Most of all Greg was very proud of his grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Matt Filicsky will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 5-7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Gregs memory to the Vermilion County Handicapped Association.
