Gregory Pettit

Gregory Pettit, 70, of Urbana, IL, formerly of Galesburg, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Carle Hospital, Urbana, IL.

He was born November 30, 1952 in Galesburg, IL, son of John and Dorothy (Harmon) Pettit. He married Susan Wilcoxen on November 27, 1983 in Gilson, IL on the ten-year anniversary of beginning their lives together. She survives.

Also surviving are 2 children, Evelyn (Dane) Ellenberg of Bement, IL; Asa (Niki) Pettit of Rantoul, IL, a brother George (Sharon) Pettit of Colorado, a sister Carolyn McClain of Chicago, IL, sister-in-law Connie Ingrassia of San Diego, CA and sister--in-law Teresa (Tom) Zefo of MO, and 7 grandchildren, Sage; Aren; William; Warren; Hazel; Ameea, Kalel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, an infant grandson Walter and his daughter Lesli. Greg worked for 20 years at Maytag in Galesburg. A devoted husband, father and grandfather (and a sharp dressed man), his passion was spending time with family. He enjoyed nature walks and fishing and was always available to lend a helping hand. He was adored and will be greatly missed.

A green burial service will be held on Tuesday at noon at East Lawn Cemetery, 802 North Cunningham Ave. Urbana, IL. Lux Memorial Chapel, Rantoul is handling the arrangements.
