Gregory Thomas Palmer, 68, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., passed away peacefully on Sunday (July 28, 2024) after a short illness in Anaheim, surrounded by those who loved him.
Greg was the first child of Thomas and Leona Palmer (Roessler). Greg graduated from Western Illinois University, majoring in criminal justice. He worked as a police officer at the Newport Beach Police Department in California from 1981 to 1986. He then lateraled to the Anaheim Police Department in 1986. He began as a patrol officer and was promoted to investigations, working in their gang division as well as robbery and homicide. He was later promoted to sergeant, working as the APD Association president. He retired in 2010. He then worked as a welfare fraud investigator for the OCDA office for the last 10 years. He won many awards for his excellence in law enforcement for almost 40 years.
Greg loved his children, Nancy and Nolan Palmer, more than anything in the world!
He was preceded in death by his father, Tom; and uncles, Paul Jean Palmer, Kenneth Roessler and Doug Royalty.
He is survived by his children; mother, Leona Palmer; sister, Kathy Anderson (Jack); brother, Jeff Palmer (Rachel), all of Rantoul; his niece and three nephews; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Greg loved to travel and took many trips internationally. He has so many family members and friends who will miss him greatly. We love you, Greg!
Services will be on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 E. Grove Ave., Rantoul. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service at 11. Burial will follow in Huls Cemetery, Gifford.
