Greg was a graduate of Georgetown High School, Class of 1969. He went on to build a long and accomplished career in the food industry, working for many years as a plant manager for Quaker Oats in Illinois, Iowa, and Kentucky. He later worked in Texas for Pillsbury as a plant manager and then for General Mills before returning to Illinois to work at Conagra in Danville and Rossville. Throughout his life, he was known as a fun-loving, warm man to be around, and he made lasting impressions on those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He was a member of Second Church of Christ in Danville, Illinois, and valued the companionship of his very loyal group of friends at North Fork Lodge. These connections were an important part of his life and reflected the relationships he treasured over the years.
One of Greg’s greatest blessings was his family. He and his wife, Rhonda Hughes, shared more than 54 years of marriage together, a remarkable life built on love and devotion. In addition to Rhonda, he is survived by his son, Anthony (Tony) Hughes; his brothers, Rodney Hughes and his wife Sara, and Stephen Hughes and his wife Donna; his sister, Marsha Byerly and her husband Ted; his sister in laws, Carolyn Hughes and Judy Hughes; and his friend, Dennis Niziolkiewicz and his wife Suzanne. He will be remembered with deep affection by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, George “Herb” Hughes; his mother, Francis (Galyen) Hughes; his sisters, Marilyn Henschen and her husband Clarence, Phyllis Ross and her husband Norman, and Janice Jones and her husband John; and his brothers, Dennis Hughes and Larry Hughes.
