Gregory Dean Grant, 50, of Georgetown, passed away 9:49am, Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, following a short bout with cancer. He was born on December 22, 1964, to Norman Sr. and Rosalie {Walker} Grant of Georgetown. Gregory leaves behind: his girlfriend, Crystal Newell and their grandchildren, Courtney & Gabriel; his brothers & sisters, Judy (James Sr.) Dargin, Norman Jr. (Cynthia) Grant, Cary (Jane) Grant, Patricia Johnson, Deborah Grant, Dennis (Tee) Grant, Darrell Grant, & Tyrone Grant; his nieces & nephews, Cory, Clayton, Jeremy, LaTeesha, Kerri, Makaiah, Sean, Debbie, Janene, Neven, James Jr., & Jacqueline; his seven great nieces & great nephews; and extended family members. In addition, Gregory will be missed by lifelong friends, Mark, Ray, & John Steward, and Steven Readnour, and host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, & aunts/uncles. Gregory was a resident of Georgetown his entire life and graduated from Georgetown High School. He previously worked at Cayuga Brickyard and Georgetown Waterworks. He was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Georgetown. Gregory never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. He had an outgoing personality and an infectious laugh. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, wrestling and loved to cook. A celebration of Gregorys life will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, with Fr. Timothy Sauppe officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00am-2:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in his name to Retinitis Pigmentosis Foundation, Colon Cancer Research or Charity of donors choice.
