Danville- Gregory W. VanBuren, 55, of Danville passed away at 6:36 AM on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. He was born on September 7, 1955 in Paris, IL, to Charles and Opal V.M. Fillinger VanBuren. He married Louise Cooke on August 23, 1975 in Danville. She Survives. Also surviving are his three children Amber and Loren Winters of Virginia Beach, VA, and Amy Nicole VanBuren of Lafayette, IN; the apple of his eye granddaughter Hannah Nicole Winters of Virginia Beach, VA; father Charles VanBuren; father and mother in-law John and Charlotte Cooke of Danville; siblings, Stephen (Anne) VanBuren of Holt, MI, Randy (Lolet) VanBuren of Milton, FL, Cathy VanBuren of Danville, Teresa (Joe) Humrichous of Williamsport, IN, and Tammy (Shane) Hopper of Danville; brother-in-law Tim (Bonnie) Cooke of Ridgefarm; sisters-in-law Lynn (Jeff) Nogoda of Bourbannaise, IL and Lori (Lee) Duprey of Danville; and was blessed with many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his special four legged furry friend Madison. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother Opal, and brother-in-law John Bryant. Greg worked for 13 years for Rockford/Reliable Insurance before starting his own painting business, VanBuren Painting which he operated for 17 years. He was the past head umpire and president of the board for Winterview Girls Softball League. He also umpired for DHS girls softball, as well as little league baseball at Central Foundry in Tilton. Aside from these activities, Greg was also the owner and operator of the First Bank of Dad. Greg was very dedicated to special needs children and was heavily involved with the kids at the St. Louis Childrens Hospital. He dedicated his life to those that he loved and believed in giving the gift of life through organ donation. A service to celebrate the life of Greg VanBuren will be held at 1 PM on Monday, February 7, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home in Danville. Pastor Joe Humrichous will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Sunday, February 6 also at Sunset in Danville. Per Gregs and his familys wishes, please come to the visitation and service in your blue jeans. Memorials may be made to the family for a trust fund for his granddaughter Hannah.
