Grant A. Burton

Grant A. Burton, 60, of Schaumburg, Illinois passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025 at his mother’s home in Covington. He was born on August 2, 1965 in Scotland, UK to Clarence and A. Marcella {Johnson} Burton. His father preceded him in death.

Grant’s educational journey began at Danville High School, where he graduated with the class of 1983. Displaying a keen intellect and determination, he continued his studies at Eastern University and later the University of Illinois, where he obtained a degree in engineering. His pursuit of knowledge never ceased, as he furthered his education at Lake Forest Graduate School, earning a master’s degree. In his professional life, Grant enjoyed a decade-long career at Dents Ply, where he was grateful for opportunities that allowed him to travel, especially his trip to Germany. His career continued at Sternburg Lighting, where he dedicated over six years of service before retiring. Throughout his career, Grant was known not only for his expertise but also for his kindness and unwavering support for his colleagues.

Grant’s passions included travel, playing the piano, and indulging in classical music. Faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he consistently kept Christ at the center of his pursuits. His steadfast faith inspired those around him, and he approached life with a spirit of gratitude. He possessed a deep appreciation for life, continually reflecting on his blessings and expressing concern for the underprivileged. Golfing with his brother and father was one of his fondest pastimes, and he relished these moments spent outdoors. He held many cherished memories from the summers he would join his life-partner David’s family in the family cabin outside of New York; the days were spent full of laughter and camaraderie. Grant also held a distinguished title as an Eagle Scout, a testament to his dedication and leadership spirit.

In addition to his father, Grant was preceded in death by his brother Gary Burton and his most loyal companion Pebbles.

Grant is survived by his mother, Marcella Burton; his life-partner of over 3 decades David Harbison, and his family Noreen Harbison, Laura & Don Keefer, and Cheryl (Brandon) Greene; and his sister Diane (Jeff) Dennis and her family. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Janelle Burton; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, many cousins, aunts and uncles.
