Saginaw, MI - Grace Bell Vallance McLeod Patton, 91, of Saginaw, MI, formerly of Danville, IL passed away January 21, 2015 at Hoyt Nursing Home in Saginaw. Born January 10, 1924 in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was the daughter of William Vallance and Jane Gray McLeod. She graduated from Boroughmuir Secondary School in Edinburgh. Grace served as a medic in the British Army during World War II. Her rank was Corporal. She married Robert L. Patton January 28, 1950 in Chicago. He preceded her in death July 26, 1997. Grace was naturalized a citizen of the United States of America in 1952. Once they moved to Danville, Grace began teaching at Danville Beauty College and operated her own salon out of her home. She was also a very talented artist, known for painting roses on porcelain. Grace traveled the world teaching porcelain art, and was a member and Past President of World Organization of China Painters. In 2003, she moved to Saginaw, Michigan to be closer to her family. In Saginaw, she attended Second Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two children, Michael J. (Deanna) Patton of Saginaw, MI and Barbara J. (Paul) Hering of Lombard, IL; a sister-in-law, Kathryn (Mark) Meyer of Danville; seven grandchildren, Lauren (Ryan) Schoenmeyer, Michael Patton, Ann (Tim) Bolognani, John (Shannon) Chisholm, Mark Hering, Jessica (Mark) Mariani and Justin Hering; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert; and a sister, Helen McLeod Weaver. A memorial celebration of Graces life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Grace will be laid to rest following services Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park, Danville. According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded.
