MAHOMET-Gordon Rex Dillow passed quietly into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 24, 2013. Gordon was born on November 3, 1941 in Millcreek, Illinois, the third child of Edward E and Carrie M Dillow. He married Karen Boswell on June 14, 1963, she survives. Also surviving are his two children, Robert Dillow and Janna (Qunicy) Koziol; four grandchildren, Audrey, Olivia, Duncan, and Owen; two brothers, Gary (Carol) Dillow and Ronald Dillow; brother-in-law, Gary Burton; one nephew; and five nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Doris Burton. Gordon was a graduate of Belleville High School and the US Navy School of Electronics. He attended Texas College of Arts and Industries and Illinois State (Normal) University. From an early age, Gordon demonstrated a strong work ethic. His first “job” was sweeping the local barbershop as a 9 year old. He worked at A&P Tea Company in East St. Louis from high school and until joining the Navy. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he went to work for Eisner Foods serving as store manager and district Quality Control and Loss Prevention Supervisor. In 1984, he left Eisner and purchased the Oakwood Market in Oakwood, Illinois, fulfilling a lifelong dream to own his own business. In 2002, he sold this business but, never one to stay idle; “his retirement” jobs included a MikeSells Distributorship and Kitchen Cooked Sales Representative. More recently, he was employed as a cleaning technician for ESS Clean in Champaign. He was an avid reader and enthusiastic gardener, fisherman, and cook. A devoted husband and father, Gordon was so very, very proud of his son, daughter, and four grandchildren. A recent great joy was being able to witness the baptism of Audrey, Olivia, and Duncan by their father, Quincy, in August 2012. Gordon was a member of Windsor Road Christian Church. He lived his life as a committed Christian, a child of the one true God he was committed to the Lordship of Jesus and comforted by the Holy Spirit, a firm believer in the power of prayer and the truth of scripture. Visitation will be held from 1-3pm on Sunday, July 28th, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Homes, Champaign-Urbana Chapel, and 710 North Neil Street, Champaign. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29th, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.
