G. Neil McMillin, 88, of Danville, passed away at 12:25pm CDT on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Provena USMC in Danville. He was born on February 23, 1923, in Danville, the son of Gordon and Maybelle (McKim) McMillin. Both are deceased. He married Jane E. Smith in San Diego, California in 1945. She survives along with their two daughters; Diann McIntosh of Newport, Ind, and Dawn McMillin of Danville. His seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and his two sisters; Sally (Don) Fitzsimmons of Danville, and Emily (Floyd) Scarlett of Texas, also survive him. In addition to his parents, his two sisters, and one brother preceded Neil in death. He attended Danville Schools as well as Bradley University. During WWII, Neil served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S Bolivar in the Atlantic and South Pacific. He worked for General Motors Tilton Foundry for 30 years as a machinist and patternmaker, and was also a licensed pilot, real estate agent, and a licensed Indiana watchmaker. He was a member of the Vermilion Heights Christian Church, in Danville, a 32 degree Mason, belonging to the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge, of Danville for over 50 years, as well as a Golden Eagle, GAO Grotto, VFW Post #728, the Newport, IN, and Danville, IL, American Legion's. His hobbies included traveling, camping, boating, waterskiing, motorcycle riding, flying, oil painting, and china painting. He will be missed by all that knew him. A Celebration of Life Service for Gordon "Neil" McMillin is scheduled for 11:00am CDT on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville with burial following the service at Sunset Memorial Park with full military honors conducted by the Danville American Legion Post #210. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8pm CDT on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites being conducted by the Olive Branch Lodge at 7:30pm CDT on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the McMillin family has asked that donations be made in Neil's name to local food banks in the area.
