Gordon Millis

Danville- Gordon H. "Mousie" Millis passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at his home in Danville, IL. He was born July 16, 1926 in rural Georgetown, the son of Bradie and Elsie Millis. On June 28, 1952, he married Jane Royalty, she survives. Gordon has four sons, Randy (Judy) Millis of Oakwood, Bruce (Belinda) Millis of Danville, IL, Jay Millis of Rantoul, Jeff Millis of Danville; eight grandchildren, Matt (Jessi), Brycie Lynn, Adam (Jenny), Erica Dawn, Andy (Whitney), Eric (Sarah), Austin and Brandon; five great-grandchildren, Mia Susanna, Ruby Jane, Jeremiah, Madelyn Jane, Aubrey Grace, two step great-grandchildren, Nikki Jones and Piper Wolf; brother, Harold (Donna) of Champaign, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glen, Art, Wilbur and Donald; sisters, Dorothy and Betty. Gordon attended Ogden and Armstrong High Schools. He joined the Navy in July of 1944 and served until July 1946. He was stationed in Guam and worked at Chanute Air Force base in Rantoul from 1952 until its closing. Gordon always had a big garden and loved to share his crops with everyone. He took great pride in caring for his yard. He was a die-hard Cubs fan and was thrilled when they won the Word Series in 2016; it was a dream come true for him! When Gordon lived in Potomac he coached little league baseball and served six years on their school board. He also loved high school basketball and especially enjoyed watching his son, Jeff's, Westville teams play. He missed very few of their games over the past 33 years and attended his last game at the 2017 Regional Tournament in February. Gordon was much loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be 4-7 PM on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL 61834. Private family service on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 10 AM. The family would like to give a special "thank you" to Karen, Marge and Valerie for their care over the past month. In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made in Gordon's name to Carle Hospice or the donor's choice.
