Gordon Earl Wood, 88, of Lisle, IL passed away on April 29, 2011, at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa, AZ. He was born on May 29, 1923 in Rossville, IL to Robert Earl and Clara Agnes (McCluskey) Wood. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Tompson, on July 7, 1945. They have shared 66 loving years together. Also surviving are two daughters, Karen (Dr. Joe) Siebert of Downers Grove, IL and Kathy Poe of Rowlett, TX; brother Ron (Jan) Wood; two sisters Virginia Morts and Alice (Joe) McFadden; four grandchildren, Cheryl Siebert of Chicago, IL, Mark Siebert of Memphis, TN, Elizabeth Poe of Dallas, TX and Bryan Poe of Rowlett, TX; a great-granddaughter, Jamison Grace Siebert of Memphis, TN; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Danny Wood. Gordon graduated U of IL in 1948 as a structural engineer. He worked at the American Can Company for 37 years until his retirement as Manager of the Midwest Engineering Department in Chicago. Gordon was an avid tennis player, golfer, and amateur photographer. A memorial service for Gordon Wood will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Grace Pointe Church located at 1320 E. Chicago Ave. in Naperville, IL. Additional services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, May 9, 2011, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL, (217)442-2874. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Foundation.
