Gordon Lightning Carr, 70, of Danville passed away on March 13, 2008 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. Gordon was born May 31, 1937 in Central Falls, Rhode Island son of Harold and Mary (Hudson) Fletcher. He married Mildred Goodwin on December 26, 1960 at the home of the brides parents, by the brides father. She survives along with three children and nine grandchildren: Jenny (Jeff) Burress of Danville and their children Joe & Jessica; Barbara (Doug) Schmit of Fithian, IL and their children Dougie, Ben, Alex, & Mabel Claire; and Patricia (Jeff) Greer of Chatham, IL and their children Allison, Joshua, & Ethan. Surviving extended family are Barb Hazelbaker, Dick (Ardith) Goodwin, Nancy (Tom) Smith, Judy (Harvey) Truex, and Eric (Jeannene) Goodwin and several nieces & nephews. Also surviving are special family members in Massachusetts Charlie (Judy) King, Bob (Janice) Barrows, and Larry (Judy) King and his special Christian Family at East Park Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, and special mother-in-law Mabel Goodwin and a beloved brother-in-law Cliff Toody Hazelbaker. Gordon was a graduate of Mansfield High School and had served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a Police Officer in Rantoul for 5 years and later for Volkswagen in Danville for 10 years. Gordon most recently worked at Hyster/NAACO in Human Resources until retiring in 2001. Gordon was a member of East Park Church of Christ in Danville for over 40 years, and served as an Elder. Gordon always had a project of some sort going, remodeling of His & Mids new home, yard work, or whatever might need fixing, and in his spare time he could be found golfing. He volunteered for AARP, and worked with VOTEC, Newell Township Transport, and serving as an election judge. God came first in Gordons life. Family came second and everything else came after that. He dearly loved his family and many friends. He was an honest, moral and loving Christian man. He led his life with great integrity and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. A Celebration of Gordons Life will be held at 10:30 am Monday, March 17, 2008 at East Park Church of Christ 1224 E. Voorhees Danville, IL with Dennis Floyd officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-6 pm Sunday afternoon at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Oakwood with Military Honors preformed by the Korean War Veterans.
