Gordon G. Andrews, 73, of Danville, passed away at 9:06 am on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Provena USMC in Danville. Gordon was born on May 9, 1935, in Bismarck, IL, the son of Eugene Max and Holly Mae (Meeker) Andrews. On October 11, 1975, Gordon married Julia Bottomley in Danville. She survives along with two special nieces, Laura (Carl) Kagawa of Urbana, Jennifer Skirpan and Fianc(c)e (Kevin Goetelman) of Danville, which were like daughters to Gordon, two other nieces, Kathy Erickson of Florida, Christine (Dennis) Boggess of Ohio, two nephews, David Bottomley of Florida, Aaron Andrews of Kentucky, two brothers, James (Sue) Andrews of Colo., and Robert (Marcele) Andrews of Florida. His two dogs, Max and Mikey, will also miss Gordon. His parents and his two brothers, Harlan Andrews, and Charles Lindy Andrews precede Gordon in death. Gordon served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959. Gordon retired from Heatcraft as a Tool Room Clerk, after 34 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Danville. He enjoyed computers, bowling, collecting vintage Corvettes and was an avid NASCAR fan. Gordon was a very giving man who enjoyed life to its fullest. A Celebration of the Life of Gordon G. Andrews will begin at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N.Vermilion St. in Danville with the Revs. Drs. Jimmy and Katie Hopper officiating. Military honors to be performed by the Danville Korean War Veterans. Entombment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, American Lung Association, or the Vermilion County Animal Shelter Foundation.
