INDIANOLA - Gordon Baird Almy, age 86, of Indianola, IL, was granted peace by his Lord on December 20, 2005, at the Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman, IL. Mr. Almy was born on June 8, 1919, on a farm west of Georgetown, IL, the son of Florence (Baird) Almy and William Almy. Both parents precede him in death. On September 5, 1937, Gordon married Dorothy Daisy Foyer. They made their home and raised their family on a farm east of Indianola where he operated a grain and livestock farm, including Angus cattle. Gordon is survived by: his wife, Dorothy; his two daughters, Winnifred (Ken) Beers of Indianola and Dorothy Zimmer of Yorkville, IL; his son, David (Connie) Almy of Indianola; his foster daughter; Mary Copeland of Rantoul, IL; his brother; Robert Almy of Cayuga, IN; his sister, Jean Miller of Boulder, CO; his 8 grandchildren, Christine (Don) Foster of Newark, IL, Cheryl Taylor of Damascus, MD, Kevin (Chandra) Taylor of Indianola, Scott Zimmer of Riverside, IL, Traci (Mike) Ehrenhofer of Round Lake Heights, IL, Heather (Aaron) Venn of Algonquin, IL, Heidi (Mike) Goetting of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Hope Almy of Morehead City, NC; his 12 great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Don (Season) Foster, Christopher and Megan Alburger, Gabriel, Jonathan, and Kimberly Taylor, Justin, Nathan, and Ethan Ehrenhofer, Jason and Tyler Goetting; and his 2 great-great grandchildren, Emma and Zachary Foster. He is preceded in death by his 2 sons-Gordon Jr. and Donald Almy, and one sister-Lois Goodmiller. Gordon graduated from Georgetown High School, and both he and Dorothy were members of the Indianola Baptist Church and taught the high school Sunday school class for several years. Later they became members of the Indianola Methodist Church where he served as board member, Sunday school superintendent, and adult Sunday school class teacher. Gordon was very interested in his community and neighbors. He always tried to help anyone that he knew was in need and greatly appreciated those who later helped him. He was a member of the Indianola Grade School Board, the Woodlawn Cemetery Board, the Indianola Historical Board, and the planning committee for the Indianola Sesquicentennial. Gordon also served as president of the Lions Club, as well as being a Mason and a Shriner. A celebration of Gordons life will be 10:00am on Friday, December 23, 2005 at the Indianola Methodist Church located at 1 S. High Street in Indianola, IL. Officiating will be Pastor Ed Long and Pastor Jarred Wells. He will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola. Visitation will be 4:30pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home at 200 E. West St. in Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made in Gordons name to the Indianola United Methodist Church.
