Danville - Goldie Elizabeth (Mourer) Greer, 87, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2014 with family by her side and Gaither music in the background. She was born in Alvin, Il, October 22, 1926 to Hansel and Gladys (Hoover) Mourer. On December 1, 1943 she married Claudis Greer Sr. Goldie and Claude were married just shy of 60 years, when he preceded her in death on November 7, 2003. Surviving are four children: Claudis “Butch” Greer Jr, of Delphi, IN, Donald Greer of St. Louis, MO, Larry (Gloria) Greer of Lusby, MD, Vicki (Merv) Johnson of Oakwood, IL. Also surviving is one sister, Betty Key. Goldie also had fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Goldie worked at General Electric for several years and also at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 17 years in housekeeping. At a very early age, Goldie learned to crochet. Crocheting doilies was her hobby until she had grandchildren, then it was afghans, sweaters and booties, stuffed animals or anything she could think of. She enjoyed entering her crafts at the local fairs, and of course, winning ribbons. She was a member of Douglas Park Church of the Nazarene. She loved watching and listening to the Gaithers. The family would like to thank the staff at Hawthorne Inn, where she made many great friends during her stay there. A visitation to celebrate the life of Goldie will be held 1:00 - 3:00 pm Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Service will follow at 3:00 pm Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Burial will take place at Davis Cemetery in Fairmount, IL.
