Gloria Rhoades, 76, of Danville passed away on October 12, 2009 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee while visiting her daughter. A special thank you to all the staff of Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN for the loving care & support to mother and the family. Gloria was born August 7, 1933 in Danville daughter of Harry B. and Dorothy Tripp Smith. She married James Lockwood and later married Ralph Rhoades. He survives after 26 years of marriage. Survivors include three children: Elizabeth Ann (Larry) Rodgers of Ashland City, TN, Jacqueline Lynn (Richard) Prevette of Greensboro, NC, and her twin brother James Waite Lockwood of Danville, IL; grandchildren: Heather Lockwood, Elizabeth Stennett, Chelsea Kyger, and David (Cassie) Rodgers; great-grandchildren: Chad, Norah, Emma Lou, McKenzie, Christopher, Caley Gloria Jean, Corabelle, Jennica, Michael David, and two more due in 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, step father Oscar White, Sisters: Shirley Ann Smith, Peggy Jean Hamilton, twin sister Glenda Lee Tuttle, and brother Curtis W. Smith. Gloria attended Danville area schools and was a loving and dedicated homemaker and mother. She enjoyed painting, sculpting clay, playing cards, and games of chance. She loved attending the Alzheimers group at the Danville VA and was a social butterfly at the Danville K-Mart. A Celebration of Glorias Life will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, October 23, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with eulogy conducted by Larry Rodgers. Visitation will be held from 5-7:30 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Danville National Cemetery.
