Gladys Marie {Wood} Arnett, of Ridge Farm, passed into Heaven at 6:20pm, Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living, Chrisman, with dignity while holding hands with her daughter as they listened to soft instrumental music.

Gladys was born in Danville, IL, on June 25, 1928, the daughter of Elsie (Arnet) and Douglas Wood. She was married to George Arnett on January 1, 1947, in Ridge Farm, IL, until his passing in September of 1990.

Gladys is survived by her loving, devoted daughter, Linda (Harold) Whelan of Rhode Island. She was the beloved grandmother of Renee Whelan-Gomes and Tammi Whelan. Her great grandchildren brought great joy to her life. She was the great grandmother of Zachary Carl, twins Lucy Marie and Layla Michelle, and Atticus Joseph. She was also survived by her sister, Jean Mason, and her brother, Denzil Woods. She will also be greatly missed by nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many friends including her special friend, Waneta K. Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stillborn daughter, Lana Leanne, a son, Carl Robert, and sister, (Mary) Darlene Davis.

Gladys interests and hobbies including singing, knitting, bible study, and all music, but especially gospel music. She was an avid and accomplished flower gardener. Each spring, her yard began to explode in color making her yard a showcase for many to admire. Another passion was photography. She then became a business under "Arnetts Glad Photos", specializing in weddings. She loved putting family photos into albums to bring our memories to life.

She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked in St. Elizabeths Hospital in the ICU Department. She continued with the hospital as it went underwent transitions and she retired after 33 years. Her caring and nurturing personality continued as she became a caregiver. She became a personal LPN and caregiver for Mrs. Fern Lenhart for 9 years. She developed a closed relationship with Fern and her family who respected and trusted her in the care of Fern. She was saddened along with the family with the loss of Mrs. Lenhart. Her genuine love of caring for people extended to members of her community. She was selected to appear in a local TV series called, "Angels Among Us." Now Gladys is an angel above us.

A celebration of Gladys life will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Vermilion Grove Friends Church, Vermilion Grove, IL, with Pastors Larry & Erik Hopkins officiating. Visitation will be 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, located at 200 E West Street. She will be laid to rest in Pilot Grove Cemetery, Ridge Farm. Memorial donations may be given in her name to Vermilion Grove Friends Church.
