Gladys Hamer, 92, of Tilton, went to be with the Lord on February 9, 2014 at 10:48 AM surrounded by her family. She was born on January 14, 1922 in Clinton, TN, the daughter of Rufus and Hiley (Hooks) Webber. She married Hugh Mitchell in 1940 in Tennessee and then later married Jack Hamer in 1971. Jack and Hugh preceded her in death. She will be deeply missed by two sons, Hugh Allen (Barbara) Mitchell of Danville, Terry (Kim) Mitchell of Rossville, two daughters, Faye (Harlan) Bates of Tilton and Carolyn (Donald) Jones of Tilton, one son-in-law, John Hamer, two brothers, Earl Webber of Danville and Leon (Nancy) Webber of Oakwood, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one daughter, Wanda Hamer, one sister, Ruby Edna Webber and one brother, Herbert Webber. She worked at GE in Danville and also at the courthouse as a bailiff until her retirement. She loved going to rummage sales, doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, camping and gardening. She had a love for pets and leaves behind her dog “Bella”. A celebration of Gladys life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Jeff Bates officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the funeral home from 3:00-6:00 PM. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.
