Gladys Gottschalk

CHAMPAIGN - Gladys Gottschalk, 89, of Champaign, formerly of Mahomet and Anchor, Ill., passed away at 4:05 p.m. Saturday (March 4, 2017) at Heartland Health Care, Champaign. She was born on Oct. 11, 1927, in Anchor, the daughter of Samuel and Grace (Jones) Smith, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Walter Gottschalk on Feb. 20, 1949, until his passing on June 17, 1986. She will be dearly missed by: son, Paul Gottschalk of Champaign; and daughter, Sharon of Watertown, Wis. She was preceded in death by son, Daniel, in February 1978; two sisters, Lucille Pretzlaff and Hazel Schleeter; and brother, Roy Smith. Gladys attended Illinois State University in Normal after high school and then worked at State Farm before she married. Later she worked at the Colfax Press, Belle Prairie Insurance in Cropsey, Berean Bookstore in Champaign, and for 25 years in the family business, First Street Antiques in Champaign. The Gottschalks farmed for 37 years near Stanford and Anchor. A remembrance celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 13, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bloomington, IL.
