Danville- Gladys E. Fitzsimmons, 96, peacefully passed away at 3:15 PM on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Danville Care. She was born September 11, 1916 in Vermilion Grove, IL, the daughter of Roy West Hawkins and Edith Nixie White Hawkins. She married Donald Fitzsimmons, Sr. on April 1, 1939 in Covington, Indiana. Surviving are three sons, Richard L. Fitzsimmons of Danville, Donald C. (Bernice) Fitzsimmons II of Danville, and John K. Fitzsimmons of Tilton. Also surviving are five grandchildren, John "Jay" K. (Laurie) Fitzsimmons II of Rochester, IL, Todd K. Fitzsimmons of Chicago, IL, Matthew J. (Angie) Fitzsimmons of Kellen, Alabama, Krista M. (Andy) Waldron of Overland, Missouri, and Shaun P. (Stacy) Fitzsimmons of Indianapolis, Indiana. Great-grandchildren surviving are Elizabeth Fitzsimmons of Rochester, IL, Grant Fitzsimmons of Rochester, IL, Michael Fitzsimmons of Kellen, Alabama, Emma Fitzsimmons of Kellen, Alabama, and Kaitlyn Fitzsimmons of Indianapolis, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald, her parents, nine brothers and sisters, Nellie E. (Hawkins) Hutchins, Ola Mae (Hawkins) Vaughan, Forest L. Hawkins, Howard O. Hawkins, Marie O. (Hawkins) Sisson, Roy J. Hawkins, Kenneth H. Hawkins, Bertram M. Hawkins, and Jack M. Hawkins. She was raised as a Quaker and attended the Vermilion Friends Academy and graduated from Ridge Farm High School. She later was a member of The United Church of Tilton and was currently a member of Central Christian Church in Danville. She worked as a school secretary for Danville School District #118 for over 20 years. She was a member of TOPS and also KOPS for many years. She volunteered at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home for many years in The Strawberry Patch. She was a friend to all and never knew a stranger. A service to celebrate the life of Gladys Fitzsimmons will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Central Christian Church in Danville. Pastor Hank Anderson will officiate. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9-11 AM prior to the service at Central Christian Church. The family asks for memorials to be given to the Central Christian Church Foundation. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville is in charge of arrangements.
