Gilbert V. Sheets

Gilbert V. Sheets, 76, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, July 14th, 2011 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Gilbert was born on September 27th, 1934 in Danville, Illinois, the son of Gilbert and Vivian (Hardy) Sheets. Gilbert was raised by his maternal grandparents-Vernon and Ruby (Green) Hardy. Gib attended Rossville grade schools and graduated from Rossville High School in 1953. He then served in the United States Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin, which was the largest ship of its kind at that time. He was employed by Mc Calman Construction Company. He started out as a timekeeper working his way to foreman. He continued with Mc Calman until the company was purchased by ONeil Brothers Construction. Gib enjoyed CBs, fishing and conversation with anyone. He loved all sports and spent many years attending his older grandchildrens sports, show choirs and pageants. He was a very proud grandpa and was recently blessed with his newest granddaughter-Krisalyn on July 4th, 2011. Gib never knew a stranger and will be missed by all. He is survived by his two daughters- Susan Willaman of Danville and son-in-law- Jay Willaman of Georgetown, Whitney (Derek) Davis of Clinton, Indiana. He is also survived by six grandchildren- Molly and Maggie Reeves, Matthew Willaman and Danielle, D.J. and Krisalyn Davis. Also surviving are two sisters-Pam and Candace and their families and two brothers- Charles and Dennis and families, along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two brothers- Ed and Larry and one sister- Helen. A Celebration of the life of Gilbert V. Sheets will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 20th, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor Buddy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow the service in Manns Chapel Cemetery in Rossville. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
