Gertrude L. Gardner

Gertrude L. Gardner, 93, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 6:12pm, Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Provena USMC, Danville. She was born on February 12, 1919, in Westville, IL, the daughter of Thomas H. and Flora M. {Thomas} Coan. On October 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to Ben Gardner until his passing on November 24, 1986. She is survived by: her sons, Bob (Deena) Gardner of Lakeland, FL, & Jerry (Karen) Gardner of Springfield, IL; her grandchildren, Denny (Juli) Gardner of Ridge Farm, Tom (Becky) Gardner of Danville, Brieanne (Jasen) Best of Chatham, Emily (Matt) Miller of Washington, IL, Cathy (Lonnie) Lappin of Danville, Robert (Shannon) Gardner of Brainard, MN; her great grandchildren, Amber, Stephanie, Kyle, Tyler, Brittani, Courtney, Ben, Daulton, & Brysen; her four great-great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Maxine Coan of San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her brothers, Harry & Thomas Bub' Coan; her son, Jim Gardner; and her daughter-in-law, Sonda Gardner. Gertrude had worked for the Ridge Farm Grade School for many years serving as a secretary, as well as, treasurer. She was a member of the Ridge Farm Church of Christ. She loved to spend her time fishing with her husband, Ben, walking & working with Mary, and also enjoyed quilting & reading. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family and spending time with them. A celebration of Gertrude's life will be held at 10:00am, Friday, August 24, 2012, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown. Visitation will be held 4pm-8pm, Thursday, August 23, 2012, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in Gertrude's name to Ridge Farm Church of Christ.
