Gertrude L. Hamand, 87, of Georgetown, formerly of Tilton, passed away at 10:15am on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. She was born on September 7, 1921 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of John and Ottilie (Sablotny) Schultz. On February 6, 1946, Gertrude married Mr. Lamoyne Hamand in Danville. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2003. She is survived by her four children, Gary (Judy) Hamand of Crawfordsville, IN, George Hamand of Indianapolis, IN, Connie (Alan) Smalley of Tilton, and Laura (Bill) Fares of Tilton. Her three grandchildren, William Fares III of Lafayette, IN, Pam Fares of Tilton, and Tasha Hamand of Lafayette, IN. Her five great-grandchildren, Bradley Fares, Laura Jayne Elliot, Curtis Fares, Andrew Fares, Daniel Fares, and her one great-great granddaughter, Natalie Fares. Her nephew, John Butch Schultz of Decatur, her1 great nephew and one great niece, as well as numerous friends in Georgetown, Danville, and Meza AR also survive her. Her parents, two sisters, Olga Ester Schultz, Emma Schultz, and her brother, John Schultz, precede Gertrude in death. Gertrude was a homemaker who enjoyed being with her family. She was a member of the Central Park Christian Church in Tilton. She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening, jigsaw puzzles, quilting, and playing skip Bo. A Celebration of Gertrudes Life will begin at 10:00am on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Central Park Church of Christ located at 1735 S. Washington St, in Tilton, IL, with Pastor Wade Martin officiating and internment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be from 4pm-8pm on Friday, August 7, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville.
