CHAMPAIGN- Gerald T. “Jerry” Warmbier, 71, of Champaign, died at 2:55 a.m., on Wednesday (August 14, 2013) at Carle Hospital. Jerry was born on October 25, 1941 in Champaign, the son of Frank and Helen (Reinhart) Warmbier. He married Judy Logan on June 29 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. He is also survived by two sons, Joseph Warm bier and James Warmbier both of Champaign; two grandchildren, Amber Warmbier of Champaign, and Steven Warmbier of Monticello; one brother, Ken (Dianna) Warmbier of Sarasota, FL.; three sisters, Yvone (Louie) Maier of Champaign, Rita (Jerry) Soff of Seminole, FL.; and Phyllis McGovern of Chicago; a sister-in law, Sharon (Ray) Bielert of Champaign; a brother in law, Jack Logan of Monticello; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents; and one brother, John Warmbier. Jerry worker for many years as a photographer for the News-Gazette, and later for the University of Illinois. He spent much of his free time caring for animals, and was instrumental in helping to fund causes so the lives of many animals could be better. Jerry enjoyed cooking, and loved to do so for his family. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am - 10:00 am on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 405 W. Clark St., Champaign, with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Father David Sajdak officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Jerrys caring spirit, contributions may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church or to the Prairie Land Anti-Cruelty Shelter for the Spay and Neuter Program.
