Gerald Lawhorn Sr.

Gerald Lawhorn Sr., 78, of Danville, passed away on July 23, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on March 24, 1938 in Danville, the son of James and Francis (Sparrow) Lawhorn. He married Saundra Townsend on October 5, 1968 in Danville and she still survives. Gerald will be deeply missed by his wife, Saundra, son, Darren (Amber) Lawhorn of Danville, daughter, Sonya (Gary) Sylvester of Bloomington, IL, sisters, Sharon Gillis of Tilton, IL and Arlene (Larry) Bennett of Kentland, IN, grandchildren; James Lawhorn, Sandra Lawhorn, Joshua Lawhorn, Amber Gosnell, Caleb Wissmiller, Corey Wissmiller, Savannah Board, Colton Lawhorn, Cade Lawhorn and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gerald Lawhorn Jr., brother, James Lawhorn and sisters, Connie Whited and Sandy Divan. Gerald served in the United States Army. He worked as a barber in Danville for 35 years before working for the Correctional Centers in Pontiac, IL and Danville for over 20 years earning the rank of Lieutenant. Gerald was an avid Cubs, Bears and Fighting Illini fan. He enjoyed his dog "buddy" very much. Gerald was a family man and loved spending time with his wife, golfing and bowling. A celebration of life memorial visitation for Gerald will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Sunset Funeral home and Cremation Center 3940 North Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834 from 2:00-5:00 PM.
