Gerald 'Jerry' Ashenbremer

Gerald "Jerry" Ashenbremer, 100, passed away at 9:45 a.m. at Colonial Manor on Wednesday, December 05, 2018. He was born on October 23, 1918 the son of Edward Ashenbremer and Lora (Blue) Ashenbremer. They precede him in death.

Also preceding Gerald in death include one son, Robert (Rusty) Ashenbremer.

Surviving Gerald is his wife of 71 years, Wilma Ashenbremer; two sons, Rand (Pam) and Rick (Connie) Ashenbremer; grandchildren, Meagan (Bob) Weber and Ian Ashenbremer; and great grandchildren, Griffen and Hayden Weber.

Geralds goal was to live so that he could take care of his wife, Wilma, who has Alzheimers. He worked on the railroad and was the Secretary of the local United Transportation Union for many years. He was a member of the Second Church of Christ, belonged to a German Dance Club, was an eclectic collector, and avid do-it-yourselfer. When he was able to live in his own home, it would not be unusual to see him up in a tree trimming or on his roof working well into his 90's. Gerald loved to tell stories and talk to people. He was involved with Boy Scouts, loved to travel, and loved animals. He always had at least one or two family pets and took in many, many strays. He was a World War II veteran and at the age of 97 his son, Rand, took him to Washington, DC on an honor flight. He loved his children and grandchildren but was thrilled when he had his great-grandsons. When he was able, he would happily drive to the Chicago area to celebrate birthdays, holidays, or just to spend time with them.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville.
