Gerald 'Gerry' Umphenour

Gerald Gerry Umphenour, 76, of Covington, Indiana, passed away at 8:46am, Monday, January 18, 2021, at VA Illiana Health Care Systems, Danville, IL. He was born on June 29, 1944, in Garden City, Michigan, the son of Everett and Ruth {Becker} Umphenour. He was united in marriage to Karen S. Lower on October 16, 1971. She will miss him dearly. Gerry served proudly in the US Navy for 24 years and in that time, served in the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, as well as a member of the VFW and American Legion Post #210. Gerry was known to live life to the fullest and never met a stranger. He enjoyed traveling the country and riding his Goldwing as he belonged to the Goldwing Road Riders Association. He loved dancing with the Frontier Twirlers and playing pool. His legacy will live on in the memories he created with family and friends. Gerry is also survived by his son, Scott Umphenour of Covington; his daughters, Shawn (Ed) McCusker of Pennsylvania, Jamie (Bill) Hienkel of New Jersey, & Tracy Tweed of Pennsylvania; his six grandchildren; his two great grandchildren; his brothers, Tom Umphenour of Tennessee & Bill (Jeanne) Umphenour of Catlin; and his foster sister, Shirley Johnson of Champaign. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, David Tweed; his 2 foster sisters; and his sister-in-law, Donna Umphenour. A celebration of Gerrys life will be held at 11:00pm (CST), Friday, January 22, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 824 E Main ST, Danville, IL, with Pastor Kent Tibben officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service at the Church. It is kindly requested that those in attendance wear facial coverings and practice social distancing for both visitation and service. He will be laid to rest in Danville National Cemetery.
