Gerald 'G.D.' Wright

Danville- Gerald Dean "G.D." Wright, 71, of Danville passed away at 2:10 am on June 22, 2016 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, IL. "G.D." was born on July 11, 1944 the son of Rotchen Raymond and Nora (Harris) Wright in Bel Air, MD. He married Sally J. Ellis on August 21, 1992 in Danville, IL. Survivors include his wife, Sally, one son: Damon (Kim) Wright of Potomac, IL, one daughter: Daylon "Day" Enderson of Catlin, IL, two brothers: Rotchen "Jr." (Miriam Hollingsworth) Wright of Danville, IL and Bob (Susan) Wright of Key Largo, FL, four grandchildren: Hayley (Dean) Shore of Hollywood, CA, Jackson Lockwood of Catlin, IL and Hunter and Zane Wright of Potomac, IL as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. "G.D." was an Engineer for various railroads for over 39 years. He started his railroading career with the L&N / C&EI then moved to MOPAC, which later merged into the Union Pacific. He was a member of the Potomac Church of the Nazarene, the BLE (Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers) and served his country in the Marine Reserves. He enjoyed his breakfast club with the Retired Railroad Employees as well as working out in his yard, attending his grandchildren's ball games as keeping his automobiles spotless. "G.D." loved his cars and enjoyed cleaning, washing and waxing them. He was also a diehard Chicago Cubs and Miami Dolphins Fan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday June 27, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL with Pastor Randy Holden officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill in Danville. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday June 26, 2016 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
