Gerald Earl Stitt

Gerald Earl Stitt, of Danville, born February 6, 1932 in Urbana, IL deceased August 21, 2017 in Danville, IL. The son of Ralph Earl and Helen Celeste Stitt, Jerry was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Danville. He attended the University of Illinois and College of Advanced Traffic. He also served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Stitt retired from Archer Daniels Midland Company in Decatur, IL on April 30, 1999 as Senior Vice President of Transportation. Prior to moving to Decatur in 1979, he worked 25 years for Lauhoff Grain Company in Danville, having achieved the position of Corporate Vice-President. Jerry was a member of the National Freight Transportation Association, American Society of Traffic and Transportation Clubs of Chicago, St. Louis, Danville and Decatur and served on the Board of Directors of Trans-System Corporation in Kansas City, MO. He served as President of the Decatur Club, and was a member of the Kiwanis Golden K Club and both the Danville and Decatur Country Clubs. Upon retirement, Jerry enjoyed serving as a Red Vest volunteer at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center. Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Helen (Meunier) Stitt; brothers, Ronald Stitt, and Michael Stitt; nephew, Scott Stitt; grandson, Jared Stitt; sister-in-law, Doris (Fitzke) Stitt. Jerry is survived by his wife of 63 years and high school sweetheart Rosemary (Koebrich), whom he married September 25, 1954; daughter, Stephanie (Jerry) Hathaway of Oakwood, IL; sons, Stephen (Julie) Stitt of Elburn, IL, Michael (Verna) Stitt of Highlands Ranch, CO, Brian Stitt of Palm Springs, CA, and Thomas (Lenore) Stitt of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Alex, and Derek Stitt; brother, Ralph Stitt of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Patricia (Bratkowski) Stitt of Danville, IL and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11am on Friday August 25, 2017 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Danville, IL. Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, St Paul's Church (Danville, IL), Schlarman Academy (Danville, IL), St. Teresa High School (Decatur, IL), or Our Lady of Lourdes Church (Decatur, IL).
