GEORGETOWN - Gerald Deane Galyen, 70, of Georgetown, passed away at 8:30pm on July 4th, 2005, at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on February 25th, 1935, in Georgetown, the son of Dale and Selma (Richards) Galyen. On June 3rd, 1956, Deane married Janet Lowe at the Georgetowns Friends Church. She resides in Georgetown. Others that will miss Deane include: his mother, Selma Galyen of Georgetown; his two daughters, Lisa Galyen and Lori (James) Helwig, both of Georgetown; his brother, Ronnie (Linda) Galyen of Hawthorne, FL; three sisters, Kay (Mac) Sprouls of Georgetown, Judy (Bob) Larrance of Cayuga, IN, and Vanda (Rick) LaMar of Troy, MO; his four grandchildren, Danica (Brad Hayes) Pearson, Tate Pearson, Justin Byers, Macie Helwig and Leijah Helwig; his great-granddaughter, Haylee Hayes. His father, Dale, and one sister, Marilyn Sue, preceded Deane in death. Deane was a member of the Georgetown Friends Church and set on the Board of Trustees at one time. He was also a member of the Georgetown Fire Dept from 1982-1988, as well as a member of the Georgetown School Board and the Georgetown Masonic Lodge. Deane was a self-employed Carpenter and enjoyed woodworking, as well as working on his farm. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, wildlife, and his grandchildren. A memorial service for Deane is scheduled for 4:00pm-5:00pm on Saturday, July 9th, 2005, at the Georgetown Friends Church located at 301 S. Main St. in Georgetown. Officiating will be Pastor Lloyd King. Instead of flowers the family has requested that memorials can be made in Deanes name to the American Cancer Society and/or a fund to buy an Oak Tree to plant in remembrance of Deane. Per his wishes, Deane was cremated. Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown handled the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
